Remodeling Lessons Learned Tip - Check-out a General Contractors Work
Some General Contractors wear a nice, branded Polo-style shirt. Some have new trucks with professional-looking branding. Some present a squared-away, professional-looking quote. While those are all nice - and give you the feeling you would be dealing with a true-professional, what does their work look like?
The Contractor's Current & Past Projects
Get the contractors you are interested in to show you some of their recent project homes - as in actually visit the homes during, say, an open house or by prearranged visit. Some Questions To Consider
- Do you like the style(s) you see?
- How about the craftsmanship, quality of work, and attention to detail?
- What does the homeowner say about working with the contractor - especially during times that a problem cropped up.
- Did the contractor finish the project by the estimated completion date? If not, what caused the delay(s)?
- Did the contractor stick to the budget? Did the homeowner expand the scope of the renovation project along the way?
Summary
Always check-out the work and client interaction of whichever General Contractor you are considering going with. Trust me when I say that you really do want to minimize unpleasant surprises before even starting the project.
